Brief Bio
Prof. Olfa Kanoun is one of the world's top 2% scientists in 2019. She is a full professor for measurement and sensor technology since 2007 at Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC), Germany. She graduated in electrical engineering at the Technische Universität München from in 1996, where she specialized in the field of electronics. Her PhD at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich was awarded in 2001 by the Commission of Professors in Metrology (AHMT e. V.) in Germany. She is distinguished lecturer of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society. Her research is focused on measurement methods, sensors and sensor systems. She is the author or a co-author of 36 books, more than 235 articles in international journals with peer review, 400 articles in proceedings of international conferences, and six journal special issues. Her research is focused on measurement methods, sensors, energy harvesting and power-aware wireless sensors.
Sabrine Kheriji
Chemnitz University of Technology
Germany

Brief Bio
Dr.-Ing Sabrine Kheriji obtained her computer science engineering diploma in 2013 and the Embedded Systems Master’s degree in 2015 from the National School of Engineers of Sfax (ENIS), Tunisia. She received her doctoral degree in 2020 in electrical engineering from Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC) and in computer science engineering from ENIS. She is working as senior researcher at the chair for Measurement and Sensor Technology (MST). Her research interests include Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), Internet of Things (IoT), data aggregation techniques for WSN, low power embedded system, information technology, communication and networking, and cloud computing.

SCOPE

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are nowadays of high interest in several fields of science and technology including smart home, industry, environment and e-health. This trend is getting reinforced by the spread of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in different sectors. WSNs can reach a high complexity level when they need to integrate many functionalities to satisfy the applications requirements. Thereby, major challenges are how to enable energy efficiency, overcome wireless deficiencies and operate in a self-organized way. Energy efficiency remains an open research problem and needs development of appropriate approaches. In recent years, significant contributions have revealed valuable possibilities to achieve energy-aware WSNs by designing energy harvesting systems and reducing the energy consumption of hardware, software and communication protocols.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
  • Energy-efficient IoT-enabled WSNs architectures
  • Energy harvesting for WSNs
  • Battery-free WSNs
  • Energy-aware cluster-based routing protocols
  • Energy-aware localization
  • Energy-efficient data aggregation techniques
  • Schemes of data mining, processing and analysis
  • Fault-tolerance techniques in WSNs
  • Low-power, distributed data processing in sensor applications
  • Artificial intelligence for WSNs
  • Applications and testbeds of IoT-enabled WSNs
  • Cloud computing, fog computing and edge computing for IoT and WSNs
