Abstract: In recent years, inspection work support systems have been required in order to manage large-scale social infrastructures including bridges, railways and tunnels, in association with the rapid development of information and communication technology. It is essential for such support systems to perform for accurate measurement of positional relation between a staff and inspection points. This paper presents a high-accuracy and seamless hybrid positioning system by combining GNSS and PDR for inspection work supports. For realizing the hybrid positioning system, we propose two functions one of which is a switching function by judging the number of signal-receivable satellites, and the other is a correcting function for high accuracy positioning in actual environment with magnetic disturbance. From an evaluation test conducted under a bridge, it was confirmed that the switching function was executed seamlessly and azimuth angle correcting function reduced cumulative errors in PDR measurement to under 0.3 m.

Abstract: Recently, tactile sensing technology has been widely used in many application fields such as medical usage, robotics and texture evaluation. We have reported a novel tactile sensor based on hetero-core fiber optics, which performed in identifying touched objects with respect to both surface roughness and viscoelasticity of solid materials. In this paper we proposed a hetero-core fiber optic tactile sensor for viscosity detection of liquid. The proposed sensor was devised to have high sensitivity to a small force derived from viscosity. The optical loss change from the flow starting to the flow stop were increased with the viscosity coefficient of liquids. It was confirmed that the viscous resistance depended on the position of the tactile sensor from the bottom of the container and the velocity of the liquids.

Seating posture monitoring with hetero-core optical fiber sensitive tape

Authors:

Takahiro Hase

Abstract: In this paper, seating posture monitoring for driving was tested using the hetero-core fiber sensors. The results indicated that the chair with the hetero-core optical sensitive tapes has possibility in monitoring the sitting posture in real-time.
